Faculty Development Leave Program
Applications for the 2025-26 academic year will be announced in spring 2025—please check back for updates.
The purpose of Faculty Development Leave is to enable faculty members to engage in study, research, writing, field observation, and similar projects to improve public higher education. Before applying, faculty should consult with their respective chair and dean regarding their intention to submit a proposal for development leave.

Faculty Incentive Program for Fellowship Recipients
A University faculty member who is awarded a fellowship and who meets the conditions outlined may elect to remain appointed at the faculty member's full nine-month academic salary for the duration of the approved fellowship.

The Institute for Scholarship, Pedagogy, Innovation and Research Excellence (InSPIRE) brings faculty together to promote collaboration and provide programs aimed at identifying and supporting faculty-driven initiatives. InSPIRE offers communities of practice and professional development opportunities in a variety of areas including teaching and learning, scholarship, mentorship, and engagement.

Faculty and staff may pursue Coursera Career Academy certificates at no cost to them. These certificates complement many areas of study and provide skills useful in a variety of disciplines.

A partnership with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) has introduced a cohort-based program based on evidence-based practices that enhances the instructional skills shown to best promote student motivation, learning, and persistence. This effort forms part of the ongoing commitment to invest in the faculty in our mission to provide students with access to excellent educational opportunities.

Provost's Faculty Fellows Program
The Faculty Fellow positions are designed to provide leadership and administrative experience, as well as mentorship, to faculty members seeking to explore leadership roles in higher education administration. The faculty offer perspective, guidance, and vision to the administrative offices that they serve. Faculty Fellows work closely with campus leaders on projects to promote UTEP’s mission, goals, and strategic plan.

Appointment, Benefits, and Compensation
The Fellow will serve in an official appointment effective January 1, 2025 through August 31, 2025. This administrative appointment will provide the fellow with one course release for the spring 2025 semester, one month of summer salary, and travel support to a professional development event. The Office of the Provost encourages faculty fellows to develop scholarship related to the fellowship experience.
Application Process and Deadline
Applications are open to faculty with any full-time faculty title, contingent upon approval of department chair or supervisor. Faculty interested in serving as a Faculty Fellow should provide a curriculum vita and a 1–2-page cover letter describing:
(1) their interests and relevant experience related to Faculty Affairs and an effort to support UTEP faculty, this fellow may focus on strategy and policy related to recent and upcoming state legislative changes and Supreme Court rulings; analyzing and making sense of data; leading listening sessions with faculty to determine their needs and how the Provost’s Office can cultivate an environment committed to their success; or other topics of mutual interest to the candidate and the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. The ideal candidate will bring experience in areas such as policy analysis, quantitative or qualitative data analysis, and an overall passion for the success of UTEP faculty.
(2) their unique abilities, talents, and experiences that contribute to these areas; and
(3) the relationships between this opportunity and their future professional goals.
The Office of the Provost will facilitate a committee review of the applications, which may include an interview. The final appointment will be subject to approval of the applicant’s department chair and dean. The selection will be made as quickly as possible to facilitate class scheduling for the spring semester.

UTEP Edge Curriculum Fellows
Applications for the 2024-25 academic year will be announced in summer 2024—please check back for updates.
The UTEP Curriculum Edge Fellows collaborate with academic departments to promote the adoption of Edge practices and assist in the development of plans for scaling and documenting these initiatives across campus. Their responsibilities will include facilitating workshops, working with departments and college administrators to identify integration and support needs, and identifying exemplars for media campaigns to disseminate Edge initiatives across campus.
